4 Online Classes MUTZINE are Loving Right Now
Words Gissella Ramirez-Valle, Art Minh Thao Dao
Online learning is now the new normal and there are thousands of courses available online for just about every interest or subject. However, we noticed that there are slim pickings when it comes to courses about Korea or other subjects that we enjoy. After some hunting we discovered a few amazing online learning platforms designed for English speakers that teach you art, design, language and culture. We hope you like them as much as we do!
Deep Dive into Korean Culture with Yonsei University
Gender, Family, and Social Change in Contemporary South Korea is a free 5 week course led by professors Hyun Mee Kim and Yoo Theodore June of Yonsei University, that examines the transformation of Korean society beginning around the turn of the 20th century to contemporary times. Course contents explore how shifting categories of masculinity and femininity were shaped by media and society over the ages. Hosted on Coursera, enrollment is rolling, so you can join anytime and complete the modules which include video lectures, quizzes and assignments at your own pace.
LeARN From Korean artists, ANytime and ANywhere!
On Class 101, a newly launched virtual learning platform, notable Korean artists and creators teach their talents via weekly video lectures. The English language courses offer premium instruction and opportunity for one-on-one sessions with the instructors. You’ll even receive a starter kit in the mail to use for hands-on classes like drawing and painting. Digital illustration, cooking, and even fitness courses are added to the catalog every month. Some of the most popular courses today include a class on urban landscape illustration and music production lessons led by hit-maker Gray.
BECOME FLUENT IN Korean with a private tutor!
While there is a plethora of Korean language learning material online, Italki differentiates itself from e-books and pre-recorded video lectures by giving learners low cost access to personalized live instruction. Professional Korean tutors can be hired for private sessions for as low as $9 USD an hour. A pro-tip to get started would be to shortlist a few instructors available in your timezone, watch their introduction videos, and then schedule trial lessons to test out their teaching style and discuss your learning objectives and preferences. Once you find your match, you’ll be able to level up your Korean in no time at all!
