Hello! We’ve been following you on Instagram for a while, we’re really curious about you. Could you please introduce yourself? We’ll start from there.
Hello! I’m JANE SONG and my Korean name is CHAE WOON. I’m from Jinae, a town really far from Seoul. I am 23 years old and I’m doing modeling and also a little bit of styling. I love fashion!

When did you move to Seoul?
I moved when I started university, like 3 years ago. When I was eleven I lived in New Zealand for a year.

How did you begin modeling?
I love everything about fashion, including modeling, that’s why I started. When I was a teenager, I loved to take pictures. Actually, another reason is that I want to go to London and if I get there I would probably need a job and maybe the fastest job would be modeling.

It seems like you have been very proactive! You began by producing your own shoots and now you’re getting gigs from even photographer CHO GISEOK! Is modeling a career, or more like a hobby for you?
Well, it’s half and half! Actually, what I want to do the most is become a fashion designer.

What is the most memorable moment working as a model so far?
A recent one would be the show with GRAPHISTE MAN. G. Have you seen it? It was so exciting! The performance with drag queen Nana was really cool! After that, we had an after party and it was really fun. Actually, I walked for this designer for four seasons already, since last year when I started modeling.

Oh awesome. It’s great that you’ve built a strong relationship with a designer like that. You also walked at many other shows. How else did you prepare for Seoul Fashion Week?
Well.. maybe by losing weight (laughs) ! I went to some castings of course… Ah, an important thing to prepare was my hair color! I’ll keep this color at least until the end of this year.

Ah, yes your hair is very important for your image! Your style is very unique. How would you describe it?
Well, I love unique things! I’ve really liked really vivid and cool textures for about 10 years. I like shiny things… I don’t know why exactly, it’s just my personality.

Have you ever felt like you didn’t fit in?
Korean society is getting better… Three years ago I started changing my hair and lots of people would be staring at me, but it’s getting better!

I was just gonna ask you about the stares…
Maybe the reason is not that society is getting better but since I started modeling, overall my friends have quite different styles. They’ve all bleached their eyebrows or shaved their heads. Still, I don’t like Korea too much, when it comes to staring. I stayed in London for a month last year, at the very beginning of starting to model, and I became more confident after that. I felt freer in the way I styled myself to go out and it carried over to when I came back to Korea.

So, what are your goals for the future as a model?
I
really want to go to London! Hopefully, I can go as quickly as next year.

Besides MAN. G, what other Korean brands are you a fan of?
There are so many these days! I like the brands Hazard and KYE. I also like a shop, have you heard of Million Archive? It’s a vintage shop and it’s quite big. I buy really unique stuff from there. The shop changes their concept every month! It’s here in the Seongsu neighborhood of Seoul.

What would you do if you were not a model?
Obviously I would work as a fashion designer! I want to learn design in London because all of my favorite designers are from there such as Alexander McQueen or John Galliano. I love all of their designs. I thought how come all of these designers are from London? I really want to go there!

We hope to see you in London too! Thank you :)
