Female directors make up a stark minority in Korean cinema. Despite 59% of film students being women, 13% of female directors are represented in major film festivals and 2.5% in commercial releases. Poor industry support and ongoing gender bias inhibits the careers of aspiring young filmmakers, and often means working directors are undervalued. We hope to bring awareness to female directors in Korean cinema and celebrate their diverse body of work together.
